Overview

The AussieHQ data centre features the following specifications.

  • One 1 MW pad mount substation solely dedicated to the data centre.
  • Two 1 MVA diesel backup generators in N+1 configuration.
  • One 700 kVA UPS with N+1 redundancy supporting computer power distribution.
  • Power factor correction.
  • Two critical systems (computer, air conditioning) distribution boards per data centre space.

Tier II & Tier III

The Uptime Institute defines Tier II and Tier III levels of data centre service provision and redundancy. The AussieHQ data centre has been built to the Tier II standard while the design ensures that it can easily brought to the Tier III standard if demand requires.

Uptime Institute AussieHQ Data Centre
Tier II Tier III Initial Build Expansion Option

Client Power Allocation

The facility has been designed to provide in excess of 1.5 kVA of server power per square meter of Client floor space. In a typical deployment, Clients would have an average of 4.5kVA per rack, with ability to provide more power to selected racks. Power is distributed under-floor.

Client Cooling Allocation

AussieHQ has allocated 1 kVA of cooling power for every 1 kVA of server power allocation.

The data centre supports:

  • Under-floor by conventional Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units.
  • In-row, in-rack or pod-based cooling.
  • Hybrid CRAC/rack cooling.

The data centre design allows an initial CRAC based solution to be supplemented with rack or pod cooling at a later date.

System Redundancy

To meet the Tier II standard significant redundancy is built into the facility, including:

  • N+1 UPS system.
  • N+1 back up diesel generators
  • N+1 Computer Room Air Conditions
  • N+1 power distribution boards.

Fire Detection and Suppression

The facility is fitted with a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) and dry pipe fire suppression.

Environmental Monitoring

The Data Centre space is fitted with temperature sensors and under floor water detection sensors to protect against non-security threats to facility. AussieHQ Data Centre space is held at an average of 22C , although individual spot temperatures may be higher depending on power consumption by particular equipment.

Building Management System

An integrated, state of the art building management system monitors all non-security systems to ensure that the facility is operating at peak performance. In the event of power failure the BMS will manage the transfer to back up power, and bring CRAC units back on line progressively to limit excessive, and possibly dangerous, short term power demands. With the resumption of mains power the BMS will ensure that the UPS is fully charged before returning to normal operation.

Office, Build and Storage Space

The facility offers limited facilities for secure DR office space, build/commissioning space, and storage space.

Expandability

A mid life upgrade has been designed into the facility, with provision for:

  • A second 1 MW substation.
  • A third 1 MW back up generator.
  • Doubling of heat rejection equipment allowing up 1 240 kVA of computer power to be cooled.
  • A doubling of UPS capability.
  • Installation of additional switchboards and distribution boards.

Telecommunications Services

Key Features

  • Diverse ICON Feeds Available
  • Diverse commercial telco access installed
  • Provision for Client specific Telco Services

ICON Fibre

The AussieHQ Data Centre has ready access to diverse ICON fibre runs.

Telecommunications Access

The facility is served by diverse telecommunications links to the TransACT facility in Dickson, which allows high bandwidth access to the internet and access to most commercial telecommunications providers. Alternatively, AussieHQ can assist with the installation of Client specific carrier links into the Client's own data centre space.

The data centre is also located within close proximity to both the Telstra and Optus exchanges in Mitchell.

Data Cabling

Each data center space is fitted with overhead cable trays aligned to rack orientation. Clients may undertake their own data cabling requirements or AussieHQ can provide data cabling services at a competitive rate.
